Overview
The Camino Recovery Centre is an intimate eight-bed facility specialising in the treatment of addiction and (co-morbid) conditions such as trauma and depression. It is based in Velez Malaga in southern Spain, and is easily accessible from the UK via regular flights to nearby Málaga Airport. The Centre’s Programme Director is American psychotherapist, Don Lavender. He has held clinical management and consultative positions in some of the most effective treatment centres in the world. These include Sierra Tucson and Cottonwood in the US.Working with Don Lavender, is a small, but high-calibre team of clinicians, doctors, therapists and nursing staff – with specialist knowledge and experience in the treatment of addiction. The clinical team addresses the condition as a progressive illness that affects the whole family. It also believes that addiction is often rooted in a history of abuse and traumatic exposure – a view supported by a large body of recent research.Meeting clients’ complex needs* We run 30- to 90-day, fully integrative residential programmes to treat both substance and behavioural addictions. * We provide a medically supervised detoxification for drugs and alcohol. This is followed by primary care with a strong emphasis on group therapy, based on a 12-Step approach to recovery. * Therapies include CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) and the relatively new interventions of Equine Assisted Therapy (EAP), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). * Secondary care includes: life-skills training, healthy eating, yoga, acupuncture and exercise to prepare individuals – mind and body – to return to the world. Camino Recovery Centre has already become a preferred service provider to the US army based in Europe. The Centre is housed in a large, private Spanish villa, with a pool, and set in beautiful gardens just a few minutes’ walk from the beach. It is a place of peace and recovery where clients are treated with dignity and respect.

The most life changing experience I could ever have imagined. Had been to rehabs before but never gained sufficient insight into myself to maintain the level of motivation I needed to stay clean and rebuild my self esteem. I had been a broken man for over a decade from addiction and mental health. My time in Camino, through the help of all the staff and the program they offer, managed to completely recentre my very being and give me the gift of hope again. This came through facing the pain of looking at myself and breaking down my ego and defensive perspective on the world around me. I found enthusiasm and optimism in abundance that I never knew was there. With their support I was able to find the resilience to break through and come out the other side with a new lease of life. This was five years ago and I have stayed clean and serene ever since. I could not have done it without them and could not recommend this rehab more highly for the results I have got in life and managed to maintain all these years. The lead up to family week was tough and scary but also one of the most insightful experiences for me and all my family to help understand how we ended up sitting together in this little slice of paradise in Spain talking about feelings and finding the courage to get truly honest with each other.
I have deep respect for the staff at Camino. I have the experience of been treated with the kindest regard and care. The grounds are a wonderland of impressions. A true oasis of bliss. I recommend Camino Recovery to anyone looking to truly invest in themselves. Camino Recovery makes Recovery possible. Keep up the good work.
Addiction isn't an individual issue, it involves the whole family. Navigating this can be hard for us family members, yet through love, compassion and supported family constellation sessions, this process is explored in a safe, understanding and mentored environment. Thank you for the knowledge and understanding of codependency Don and Meena.
Beautiful picturesque place located in the rolling hills of Andalucía! Incredibly well run by lovely accommodating people!
